Workshop
Workshop
The workshop can consist of various types of tools since there are many different skills which may be involved. Some of these skills may pertain to wood working or relate to different types of machines while automotive is another large one. Most of the information and resources OnlySites4 relates to fall into the wood working category.

There are different methods for storing tools, hardware and materials which means there are also various methods for storing most of these objects. Some methods pertain to drawers, cabinets or pegboard while others may be more suited to racks or bins. The point I am trying to make is that there is no single method for maintaining and storing all these objects and it may be best to use a combination of them.

A method I like to use for storing tools is pegboard which allows me to locate what I need easily. This method will even allow placing various materials and hardware on shelves which can be made by purchasing the proper hooks. The only problem that may occur with pegboard is that it usually takes a large amount of room although even smaller areas allow hanging the more commonly used tools.

Even the types of tools vary greatly depending on what purpose they are best suited for some may be created for machine shops which require different types of tools than wood working, while automotive tools may be different than both types. Of course there are also tools which were created for more purposes other than those listed, there are some made for roofing, masonry and others geared specifically for gardening. There is no way they can all be listed on OnlySites4 which is where you will mostly find those pertaining to wood working or relating to common home repairs we all may need to perform from time to time.

There are a variety of different types of toolboxes for maintaining tools which may help to find them when needed. Some toolboxes were created for specific purposes while others are designed for general use, it may be convenient to have a couple different types of toolboxes and use each one for a specific purpose such as general repairs around the house, light carpentry work or various other types.
Hand tools
Allen Key
There are a variety of objects which use allen keys for locking them in place, a variety of tools which allen keys to replace blades. Allen keys have a hex shaped end and come in a variety of sizes. The proper size is needed to remove an allen screw.
Hammer
There are a variety of different types of hammers. There are mallets, claw, peen along with a wide variety of others. Each type was created for a specific purpose. Some hammers were created for hammering nails, others allow shaping items or taking dents out. The claw hammer will even allow removal of nails.
Screwdriver
One tool which will be required on a large variety of projects you undertake is the screwdriver. One common mistake is using the wrong screwdriver for the job. If the screwdriver is not the right size either the screw or screwdriver ends up getting damaged. This usually occurs because the blade of the screwdriver is not a correct fit for the screw. It may also occur if it is the wrong type of blade. There are so many different types of screw heads, some are not actually standard (slotted) or phillips but may be square, octagon or a variety of other types. Be sure that when selecting a screwdriver it is both the right type and correct size to avoid ruining either the screw or the screwdriver.
Handyman
Owning a home usually requires some type of skills and a variety of tools. Of course you can have projects done by a professional which could get very costly. I know quite a few people who had no mechanical or technical skills at all but after realizing how costly maintenance could get they decided to try things for themselves.

Do not get me wrong I am not saying that any project or repair could be done by the home owner. However there are a large variety of them which can be. Usually for me a large variety of the projects I undertake end up turning out to be a ot harder than they should. Luckily with my technical and mechanical ability I usually have the skills and knowledge required to complete them.

There are times when someone starts a project and then when they get in the middle of it realize there are tools or skills which they do not have. That is why the project needs to be analyzed completely. If you do find yourself in a position such as this chances are a professional will need to complete it which can be very costly. Some of the requirements to look for in a project are listed below.

Make sure to analyze the project and be sure that you can complete it without professional assistance before undertaking it.
Project
When starting any project there should be some analysis which takes place first. There are varying types of projects and some are more complicated than others. For this reason it makes a lot of sense to think about what can be accomplished with the skills and tolls currently on hand. You should also think about how long it will take to complete the project and be sure you have enough time available.
Skill Requirements
Are there any special skills which will be required. If the project involves anything which may affect the safety or security may be better left to a professional unless you are experienced in these areas. There are certain projects which require inspection and must follow certain codes. For that reason be sure you check any local or state laws before undertaking any project.
Tool Requirements
Analyze the project and see which tools are required. If you do not own a tool which is required it may be possible to rent it if it's to expensive to purchase. Another concern is to be sure that you possess any skills required to operate the tool. There are certain types of tools which require special training or a specific know how to use them.
Time to complete
One thing that is often overlooked when taking on a project is the time it will take to complete it. There are times which I realize very well that a project which looks like it may take under an hour ends up being an all day project. If it will be a long term project and that is understood before starting it then you can plan for it. To me there is nothing more frustrating than starting a simple project and having it end up taking a large amount of time. This usually happens to me when things cannot be foreseen. For example changing a light fixture or replacing a faucet. Be sure that you allow for the unseen to occur and expect the project to take longer than you plan.
Improvise
There are a large variety of projects which require doing things which may not easily be found in books or magazines. Some of these projects require a variety of skills. There were time I undertook a project and it required me to make special brackets or a variety of other improvisation. It is hard to know if this will be required but it is still worth it to try and foresee it if you can.
